Interesting and maybe a little creepy new video service
Posted by: Kurt - 03-03-2021, 11:59 PM - Forum: Cash Cow Marketing - Replies (2)

Here's a (free) site that will take an old photo and using AI animate it and turn it into a MP4 video.
https://www.myheritage.com/deep-nostalgia

Here's a few samples:

For marketing I can see these making great memes and also for pattern interrupts. Get a well known pic of a person from history and it will grab attention.

Just a guess that this may catch on and soon be over-used, but until then...

Demo of PowerPoint morph transition to create the parallax effect
Posted by: Kurt - 02-25-2021, 05:02 AM - Forum: Cash Cow Marketing - No Replies

I was messing around with PowerPoint's Morph Transition to make vertical videos using the Parallax Effect. The Parallax Effect adds an interesting 3D effect to regular images, making them more interesting in your videos.

This 37 second video has 3 examples. The key for the parallax effect using PPT is having isolated images with transparent backgrounds that can be "morphed" individually.

Ex 1 - A background of space and an image of an astronaut.

Ex 2 - Background of forest plus an image of deer plus an image of an axe in a stump.

Ex 3 - Background of street scene plus image of woman in white hat with back turned plus image of older man with a beard.

In a PPT slide just add a background image then add one or more "isolated" images with transparent backgrounds.

Duplicate the slide.

Resize and move the images, including the background. Generally modify/change images in the foreground more than towards the back.

Add a Morph transition. I used a Duration of 11 seconds in the demos. Be sure to check the "After" box so the slides will transition without needing to click the mouse.

How about some quick emergency tips?
Posted by: Kurt - 02-18-2021, 02:25 PM - Forum: Water Trough - Off Topic - Replies (1)

If you have any tips for prepping for disasters and emergencies please post them here. I'm not a "prepper or survivalist" by any means but I do believe everyone should be prepared for a variety of situations, including having a minimum of 2-3 weeks of food, water, meds, etc.

Here's some tips you may not find elsewhere...

A case of Sterno and a folding camping stove. Lighters, matches, candles. I keep a lot of rubbing alcohol on hand and it makes a great fuel for DIY lanterns.

Two water filters: One for chemicals like a Brita and another for biohazards like a Sawyer. A lot of people in Texas are soon going to wish they had these along with the knowledge of how to purify water.

Wool blanket and clothes/socks. Unlike almost every other material wool keeps its warming abilities when wet. And remember if it's cold and wet...cotton kills.

A deck of cards and a pair of dice. Boredom can become a real issue in survival situations.

If it's cold put a couple of gallon milk jugs filled 3/4 with water outside to freeze then put in your fridge to help keep it cooler and preserve food.

Nuts and protein powders/"instant breakfasts". These can withstand hot and cold temps, don't require cooking and are calorie and nutrition dense. Canned food won't withstand a freeze.

Cash. If the power grid goes down your ATM card may not work.

Keep your car's gas tank full not only for transportation but as an energy source. Have a "go bag" ready with some clothes, medications and important papers that you can grab and go.

  PowerPoint for Kinetic Text
Posted by: Kurt - 02-10-2021, 10:07 PM - Forum: The Stampede - Replies (3)

PowerPoint isn't exactly Adobe Aftereffects but it does offer plenty of options for creating kinetic (moving) text. Kinetic text is very useful as pattern interrupts to grab and keep viewer attention.

I like using kinetic text when I don't have other media like stock images or videos for a particular slide. The great thing about text is you can create a slide about anything with text. And kinetic text makes plain text much more appealing.

An issue with kinetic text is that it can take a lot of time to make impressive animated text. I suggest keeping things easy and just learn a few basics for creating kinetic text in PPT and use them when you are "stuck" without other media.

This video shows a couple of very simple kinetic text techniques for PPT and is for PPT beginners:

Think about how you can create multiple blocks of text so they can be animated individually.

Know the "bounce" and "smooth" ending features.

Seth and RSS - they never get old
Posted by: Kurt - 02-02-2021, 11:02 PM - Forum: Cash Cow Marketing - Replies (1)

I just read a really short article on Seth Godwin's blog called "Chasing the cool kids" where he talks about building your own online real estate instead of running to the newest social platform:
https://seths.blog/2021/02/chasing-the-cool-kids/

A side point in the article is about the value of RSS.

Quote:What’s the alternative?Publish. Consistently. With patience. Own your assets. Don’t let a middleman be your landlord. Yell at Google for blocking your emails and hope it’ll work eventually. Continually push for RSS and an open web. With patience.
The RSS link goes to an article from 2011 and says:
Quote:In defense of RSSRSS is the best way to consume content online. It always has been, and it still is.Not gated, not filtered, no ads, just want you want.
And on that decade-old article Seth says:
Quote:[2021 update: I wrote this ten years ago. Since then, Google has tried to kill blogs, one social network after another has come along to entice people who want to write (and read) and figured out how to steal the permission that writers have worked so hard to earn. And yet, RSS, free, open, easy to use RSS persists. If you’re not the customer, you’re the product.]

My focus on this thread is a little different from Seth's about RSS. I want to use his comments to point out how RSS is still an extremely valuable resource that has been underused for a number of use, and that there's been constant benefits to RSS over the years.

And RSS didn't just start in 2011. It had been around a long time before that. I created RSS based software in 2003-4. RSS is still a great asset for getting and sending content, as well as syndication and automation.

The Pheeds forum will hopefully talk a lot about RSS, Short Format Content...and the combo of using RSS with Short Format Content...

What was new in 2016 and still is
Posted by: onegerman - 01-31-2021, 07:32 PM - Forum: Cash Cow Marketing - Replies (3)

The trend is Mobile – #1 Priority Today (title in 2016 and valid for 2021)
So let’s get something straight. 2016 – a major shift with Search engines (specifically Google) caused many websites to loose rankings and visibility, even big companies did not count on the impact this caused on their "established Big Company website"

Since February 23, 2016, Google made several announcement that any website should use responsive design. Most websites using responsive design deal with slow load times which inherently have negative SEO consequences meaning your ranking is negatively impacted.

To make matters worse there is a site speed penalty for websites in the works per an announcement mid May by Google’s Matt Cutts. So, it seems like Google is changing the landscape of websites in that they are trying to put the mobile user first as many businesses should be doing. Common site delays are due to external JavaScript and CSS, extra coding on Websites to make them Mobile friendly/responsive.

Past websites are built on static platforms which means that they do not adjust to different screen sizes. Responsive websites are usually built using WordPress, Joomla, html and others, and require additional coding to adjust to mobile screen sizes. However due to the constant updating requirements of those platforms, their functionality can be compromised which can cause certain parts of those website to be hidden.

Let's fast forward, 2021
Shortly after I wrote the previous, then came AMP.
AMP stands for Accelerated Mobile Pages and emphasis is being placed on websites being Mobile "FAST" loading.

Remember, when searching for a site, a message warned visitors: "This site is not secure".
It became the http = bad site craze, and SSL certificate provider got an extra short term boost. Thanks to "Let's Encrypt", which by now many hosting companies provide as a free service in their plans, we all got a break.

We are not finished yet.
You wanted to get better ranking for your site? The words Citation management and Reputation Management became new money grabbing services for us Internet Marketers, and businesses paid for that service (many overpaid,) but that's another story. Many newbies who called themselves Webdesigner or Experts in this and that, jumped on the wagon, and made it more difficult for businesses to separate good from bad providers.

There is also Videos (newest now is vertical style), and all the Social Media must have (or not), and endless more...

All these changes had a huge impact on Business websites, and who knows, what will be the next issue we have to tackle, when Search Engine come out with new algorithm adjustments.

I know, there is so much more we could discuss. But looking back just 5 years, and thinking about my first computer with MS-Dos, and dot-matrix printer, last century in a different universe.. and NO Covid, we were free.  Smile

It was fun to activate some retired brain cells.Hope you enjoy.
Holger
