  Your sitcoms by era
Posted by: Kurt - 02-28-2020, 08:51 PM - Forum: Water Trough - Off Topic - Replies (2)

It's hard for me to pick a favorite sitcom of all time because they changed so much over time. How about your favorite sitcoms from different TV eras/decades?

In about the order they aired:

Jack Benny - He holds up really well still.

Phil Silvers/Sgt. Bilko - Great cast of of TV roll players.

Leave it to Beaver "That's a fine looking dress you have on Mrs. Cleaver." - Eddie Haskell

McHale's Navy - Wally makes me laugh. Tim Conway got most of the attention but Joe Flynn was just as funny.

Dick Van Dyke - Growing up I thought going to work and cracking jokes was the best job in the world. I wasn't wrong. Smile

Addams Family - Al the characters are fun.

Gilligan's island - I think this was the first series where I saw all the reruns a bunch of times. I'll catch an episode or two a year still and it's funnier than I remember.

All in the Family - I think younger generations miss the intent of the show. It was the first sitcom to point out issues in our society. It tackled these issues with humor and a way that had never been done before.

Soap - Burt and Bob and Chuck...I'm laughing just typing this.

Cheers - "It's a dog eat dog world and I'm wearing Milk Bone underwear." - Norm Peterson

Seinfeld - Shrinkage...

Two and a Half Men - The ones with Charlie. Walden sucks.

Big Bang - I liked the nerds better when they were all single and the first 5-6 years were good.

What's yours? I think I'm missing some???

The Four-Letter Code to Selling Just About Anything
Posted by: Kurt - 02-28-2020, 08:24 PM - Forum: Cash Cow Marketing - Replies (5)

Really interesting, although a bit long, about the evolution of marketing in America and a really influential person most of us have probably never heard of...

https://getpocket.com/explore/item/the-f...t-anything?

Quote:"The world below would soon match his dreamy vision. Loewy would do more than almost any person in the 20th century to shape the aesthetic of American culture. His firm designed mid-century icons like the Exxon logo, the Lucky Strike pack, and the Greyhound bus. He designed International Harvester tractors that farmed the Great Plains, merchandise racks at Lucky Stores supermarkets that displayed produce, Frigidaire ovens that cooked meals, and Singer vacuum cleaners that ingested the crumbs of dinner. Loewy’s Starliner Coupé from the early 1950s—nicknamed the “Loewy Coupé”—is still one of the most influential automotive designs of the 20th century. The famous blue nose of Air Force One? That was Loewy’s touch, too. "

Windows 10 with classic start menu
Posted by: Joe118 - 02-28-2020, 07:33 AM - Forum: Cash Cow Marketing - Replies (5)

[Posted with Kurt's permission]

YOU: a Windows 7 user forced to move to Windows 10, and now missing the classic start menu

ME: Your savior Wink

I know of two Windows 10 apps that replace the new Windows 10 startup menu with something closely resembling the classic one found in Windows 7

First, check out http://www.classicshell.net/ -- it replaces the windows menu and also decorates your windows to appear more like Windows 7. This is the one I am using personally

Then, there is https://www.wintools.info/index.php/start-everywhere 'start everywhere', which, true to its name, can be started ANYWHERE on your screen by typing a hot-key of your choice.

No more silly Windows 10 start menu! You can thank me later Wink

How would you design these postcards?
Posted by: Kurt - 02-28-2020, 05:31 AM - Forum: Cash Cow Marketing - Replies (9)

A little while ago I was browsing eBay and saw a good deal on jumbo postcards. Each is 8.5 x 5.5.

Here's the situation. Let's say I have a domain for sale like MikesBikes.com and I want to snail mail every bike shop in the USA named Mike's Bikes.

Research shows there's 10 of them across the country.

How would you design the postcards to get the best chance to sell this domain name?

In another thread we talked about a book called "The Power to Get In". It uses what's known as "internal and external leverage". I believe external leverage would be really effective on the postcard since a domain name has built-in scarcity since there's only one.

Something like:

I'm also sending this opportunity to:

Mike's Bikes in Denver
Mike's Bikes in Wooster
Mike's Bikes in Boston
Mike's Bikes in Sacramento
Mike's Bikes in Omaha

...and only one can get it.

Do you agree? What else would you put on a big postcard? I have decent graphic skills and a printer. Any design or copy suggestions?

Best Low Cost Internet Marketing Resources
Posted by: Albert Grande - 02-28-2020, 05:04 AM - Forum: Cash Cow Marketing - Replies (6)

I hate paying full price. I like bargains and I'm always on the hunt to save money when I can.

One of the things I hate when I buy a product is monthly or yearly fees. Whenever possible I avoid these at all costs.

My absolute favorite resource for saving money is App Sumo  (No affiliate link here)

Over the last several years I have purchased:

Theme Isle WP Themes Life Time Plan for 5 Themes for $49.00
(Regularly $49.00 for 1 site per year)

In Video Life Time Plan $49.00
(Regularly $120 per year)

Lumen 5 Video Creator Free for 1 year
(Regularly $228 per year)

Tube Buddy Lifetime Access to 1 Pro Plan $39.00
(Regularly $108 per year)

These are just some examples.

I recommend App Sumo for anyone wanting to save money by buying tools and services. you cannot best the money-saving.

If you know of another great low cost please add them to this thread.

Exclamation How is Pheeds different? And Tips for Chips
Posted by: Kurt - 02-28-2020, 04:57 AM - Forum: Cash Cow Marketing - Replies (11)

A big difference is Pheeds won't accept paid ads. Ads are only allowed in the County Fair and only active members can post in the County Fair sub forum, which is 250 cow chips. This  prevents "drive by marketers".

You can earn cow chips in different ways but the best way is to start a thread that gets a lot of other people to reply. You get 4 chips for starting a thread. AND you get 4 chips for each reply your thread gets, assuming the reply has a minimum of about 30 words or so.

Sure, we're just starting out and cow chips don't have a lot of value now. But as we grow and more things are added for you, Cow Chips will become a lot more valuable.

You also get cow chips for things like replying to threads, voting in polls. But starting a thread that gets others to reply is the best way for your chips to add up fast.

Are you loyal to any companies?
Posted by: BobKa - 02-28-2020, 04:18 AM - Forum: Cash Cow Marketing - Replies (6)

My wife was the most company loyal person I ever met. If she liked a company they are the only one she would buy from. She would only eat a burger from wendys and only drive a ford and things like that. I never knew another person that was so set in her ways.

Do you understand the Dominos ad campaign?
Posted by: Kurt - 02-28-2020, 12:18 AM - Forum: Cash Cow Marketing - Replies (7)

I don't get Dominos' ad campaigns. Recently they had a campaign about delivery "insurance". Insurance if something is messed up is the last thing I want to think about when ordering pizza. I kind of want things to be right the first time. Plus, "insurance"...really for pizza?

Now they seem to be running a campaign targeting Gen X with commercials featuring a take off of Tom Cruise, Ferris Beuller and Norm from Cheers, all from the 80s.

I'm guessing that the insurance thing came from some research study, but it doesn't ring with me. I'm guessing it has to do with reaching the age group and they're trying to get the middle aged pizza customer niche?

Dominos has passed Pizza Hut in sales, so it's probably working, although some in that industry say it's because Pizza Hut hasn't innovated any new products in a while.
