When I write about strategies and methods I always try to find a free options for you. I think this can sometimes be a mistake. When it comes to HTML editors, this is a subject I've researched for many years. I've also spent a lot of time the past couple of days checking out at least 6-7 "free" options.

Just get EditPlus. I'm not affiliated with it in any way. Just a happy user.

It has a free 30-day trial, then a one-time $35 payment. That's less than $3 a month for the first year and free every year after. I used EditPlus for about 10 years.

For doing HTML, it's the best. I see better reviews for other text/html editors, but my experiences tell me that those opinions are likely from hard-core coders than from web marketers.

EditPlus is one of the few that actually has an HTML toolbar with all the basic HTML tags ready to go.

It also has a very cool feature called "Cliptext" files. These are handy files you can use to store clips of text, like HTML and CSS code snippets, and even entire page templates. There's quite a few of these for HTML other users have donated that you can download and install. You can also make your own or modify existing cliptext files.

This page has a bunch of free user donated cliptext files for web stuff like html, php, css, etc.
