Nationalist Party of Australia

Australian political party formed in 1917 from a merger of pro-conscription members of the Labor Party (who had been operating under the banner 'National Labor' after their earlier split with the Labor party) with the anti-Labor conservative parties. The Nationalist Party ceased to exist as a real force following the defeat of the Bruce-Page Government in 1929 and was replaced as the main right wing party of Australian politics by the United Australia Party.
