Justice and Development Party (Turkey)

The Justice and Development Party (Turkish: Adalet ve Kalkinma Partisi) is a Turkish political party.

It portrays itself as a moderate party, but opponents, including the President Ahmet Necdet Sezer worry that it could be a front for Islamists, or at least anti-secularists - Turkey is officially secular. It won a landslide victory in the 2002 general elections, and its leader, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is now Prime Minister of Turkey.
